Tony Arco

 

Born in Milan in1965, Tony Arco began learning the drums at the age of thirteen with Maestro Lucchini
His first professional experience started with various local groups, while his first major jazz engagement was with pianist Piero Bassini. He also played that time with various other artists and, above all, one musician who would prove fundamental to his jazz edecation: the great American clarinet player Tony Scott. Arco has since palyed with Scott on numerous occasions both in Italy and abroad.
In 1988 Tony decided to leave for the States, where he stayed for five years studing with Gary Chaffee, Bob Moses and Alan Dawson. In 1990 he started palying drums at Boston's legendary "Wally's Jazz club" where he performed with a lot of American musician. WHen he returned in Italy he performed as drummer with various groups, such as the bands of Gigi Cifarelli, Mario Rusca and also the Demo Morselli's Big Badn, with whom he palyed on the "Maurizio Costanzo Show" at that time Italy's number one television talk show.
In 1995 introduced a bew dimension when he met Enrico Intra and Franco Cerri, who offered him a post teaching the drums at the prestigious "Scuola civica di Jazz" in Milan. Today Arco's higly acclaimed teaching methods are generally considered a reference for students. He is also involved in top-levenl artistica project in Italy and internationally.

The classic Tony Arco's jazz trio, perform with battery,piano and clarinet and is formed by Tony Arco and by the pianist Fabrizio Bernasconi. These teachers come from the Academy of Jazz of Milan where they met Tomelleri (real "walking-encyclopedia" of jazz). They have a vast repertoire, ranging from evergreens such as "Summertime", "Autumn Leaves", "Stardust", "When the sains go marchin in", to the bossa nova repertoire ,such as "The girl from Ipanema" or "Wave". They can also perform dozens of passages from the New Orleans Jazz which are all based on very catchy melodies. The performances, with the aid of a grand piano (instead of the usual keyboards) will give a sound, a visual impact and a high level of quality to your evening.
